The Sagoræ November Challenge: 30 Days, a Progress Tracker and a Community
The Sagoræ November challenge is 50,000 words in 30 days, from November 1 to November 30, 2026, on the novel of your choice, tracked in the workshop's statistics: daily goal, streak, words per day, progress chart and percentage of the target reached. Three rules, no separate registration, and one promise: nobody, human or AI coach, will write a word in your place. This page is updated every year with the dates and details.
The three rules
- Your target, not an imposed one. 50,000 words is the default, inherited from the historical November challenge. You can keep it, lower it to 30,000 if you work full time, or raise it. You set it yourself on your novel, and that is what the dashboard measures.
- Your words. The workshop's coaches read, check and question. None of them drafts. The built-in proofreader (no AI) underlines, free and unlimited, but it does not rewrite either. At the end of the month, every word on the counter is yours.
- New novel or novel in progress, your call. You can start November 1 on an empty chapter or add 50,000 words to a manuscript already underway. In the second case, set the novel's target to the total you are aiming for (70,000 for a manuscript already at 20,000): the progress chart, for its part, only shows the words written in November.

Tracking relies on the writing statistics already in the workshop, with no gadget added for the occasion:

How to read those numbers without letting them turn into tyrants is the subject of writing statistics: friend or tyrant.
The coaches during the challenge
They are there; they do not push. Dédale checks that your structure moves at the same pace as your counter (a midpoint around 25,000 words, a climax around 45,000) and flags an act that overflows. The Archivist answers when you have forgotten the first name of your heroine's brother or the date of an event. Théo is useful once or twice in the month, when a scene refuses to work. The AI Proofreader waits for December. All of them answer with a diagnosis and a question, never with a paragraph of novel.
How to take part
- Create your account or sign in. The Discovery access is free, no card required.
- Open your novel (or create it) and set its word target to 50,000, or to the number you chose.
- Set your daily goal: 1,667 for the classic target, or the number from your wave plan.
- Write from November 1. You can join mid-month: the target and the counter stay the same.
There is nothing to validate at the end. On the evening of November 30, your chart and your percentage say where you got to, and the novel is in your workshop, ready for revision.
The community
Sagoræ does not build a forum for the occasion. The challenge is shared where you already write with others: your writing group, your Discord server, your social feeds. Post your Sunday chart, your percentage on the 15th, your streak. The challenge is simple; lasting is less so. Is the Sagoræ November challenge free? The Discovery access is free, no card required, and lets you create a novel, set a target and follow your statistics. The AI coaches depend on your plan; the built-in non-AI proofreader is free and unlimited.
Do I have to aim for 50,000 words? No. It is the default target, but you set your own on your novel, and that is what the percentage measures.
Can I work on a novel I have already started? Yes. Set the novel's target to the total you are aiming for, and follow your November words in the progress chart and today's words, which only count what you write during the month.
Does the AI write any of the text? No. The coaches read, check consistency and ask questions; none of them generates prose. That is the workshop's rule all year round, and the challenge's rule too.
