Reedsy Studio Review 2026: What's Free, the Add-Ons and the Alternatives
Reedsy Studio is an online novel editor whose core is free (unlimited books, ePub and print-ready PDF export with no watermark, real-time collaboration), topped up by two paid add-ons, Craft at $4.99 a month and Outlining at $7.99 a month as of September 23, 2026. It has no AI, no offline mode, no mobile app, and its interface exists in English only. It is the best free tool for finishing and exporting a manuscript; it is not a studio for building one. What is free, line by line

Both come with a 30-day trial, no card. The model is honest: you pay only for the brick you need, and nothing is taken away if you don't pay. A writer who only wants to write and export has no reason to reach for a card. A writer who wants character and place sheets with attributes, or several Boards for a novel with many threads, will go through Outlining: that is where the free version shows its limit, one Board for the whole novel, which is enough for a short story and not for a saga.
What is not there
Four absences, all of them openly stated by Reedsy.

No offline mode. Everything lives in the cloud; without a connection, you don't write. It is the limit reviewers cite most.
No mobile app. The site says so itself; your phone's browser gets you by.
No other interface language. The menus, the templates and the community (Reedsy Prompts, the marketplace of professionals) are in English. You can write a novel in any language inside it, but nothing around the editor follows you.
Two points remain unverified on the official page: a built-in spell checker, and the DOCX export that reviews mention without the pricing page listing it. If you are counting on either, check it during the trial rather than assuming it.
What it does better than the others
Collaboration. Few free tools let a co-author, an editor and a proofreader work on the same manuscript at the same time, with comments and track changes. Reedsy Studio does it in its free plan, and it is what independent reviews praise most after the export.
The ecosystem. Reedsy is first a marketplace of professionals (editors, proofreaders, cover designers) and a resource site (Reedsy Prompts, Reedsy Learning). The Studio is the front door: you write, you export, and if you want a professional editor, they are two clicks away. For a writer aiming at self-publishing in English, that continuity has value.
All of it with no ads, no watermark, no cap on the number of books. That matters when you compare with free tiers that stop at two or five projects.
